Department of Ancient Culture and Languages was established in the 1964-65 academic year in the Faculty of Humanities and Literature of Tehran University under the title of General Linguistics and Ancient Languages. This department was divided into two departments of General Linguistics and Ancient Culture and Languages at M.A and PhD. level in the 1991-92 academic year. The only department of Ancient Culture and Languages that has been established independently after the Islamic Revolution in state universities of Iran and has been active for more than a decade is the Department of Ancient Culture and Languages of Bu-Ali Sina University.
